New York, NY – March 13, 2025 – A special tribute event celebrating the life and artistic legacy of Frankétienne, one of Haiti’s most renowned literary and visual artists, will take place on April 12, 2025, in Franklin Square, New York. Organized by Define Beautiful Arts, the event coincides with what would have been Frankétienne’s birthday and aims to raise funds for the establishment of The Frankétienne Foundation, dedicated to preserving his creative influence for future generations.
Commemorating a Visionary
Born on April 12, 1936, Frankétienne was a prolific writer, poet, playwright, and painter whose work profoundly shaped Haitian and Caribbean culture. A pioneer of spiralisme, a literary and artistic movement, his legacy continues to inspire artists and intellectuals worldwide. This event will serve as both a celebration of his contributions and a fundraiser to support initiatives that honor his enduring impact.
A Night of Art, Music, and Cultural Reflection
The tribute will take place at Lantillaise Caterers and Restaurant in Franklin Square, New York, featuring a Creole buffet, live music, an art exhibition, and remarks from distinguished guests. Acclaimed saxophonist Buyu Ambroise will perform, while guest artists Elie Lescot, Harry Alibhomme, Patricia Brintel, and Zephirin will showcase their work.
Among the special guests expected to attend are New York City Council Member Mercedes Narcisse and County Legislator Carrie Solages. Adding a deeply personal touch, Frankétienne’s children, Stephane Étienne and Rudolph Étienne, will be present to honor their father’s memory.
Preserving a Cultural Legacy
Tickets are available for $70 per person on Eventbrite, with all proceeds going toward the establishment of The Frankétienne Foundation, which will work to preserve and promote his artistic and literary contributions.
